Deep Marine

Deep water clastic research; consultancy; education; field & classroom training for the oil industry

About

The Deep Marine site has two main functions...

Firstly, Deep Marine is an organisation dedicated to providing consultancy, field and class-based training courses on deep-water turbidite and other clastic sedimentary environments, to the Oil and Gas Industry.

Secondly, Deep Marine is an organisation which provides information on research on deep-water sedimentary environments, for University students, Oil and Gas industry employees, and general deep-water enthusiasts.

Deep Marine is built around the activities of Dr Bryan Cronin, an independent Academic Consultant, and associated colleagues from a range of Universities and Research Institutions.

Bryan has spent 20 years dedicated to developing an understanding of deep-water turbidites at Outcrop around the world (he has published on examples from 8 different sedimentary basins), on the modern Sea Floor (he has participated fromAbout Deep Marine PhD student to co-Chief Scientist on 7 deep-water Research Cruises), and in the subsurface in Oil Fields (he has consulted on the subsurface in 4 deep-water Petroleum Systems).

With Oceanographers, Outcrop specialists and Experimentalists, Bryan has developed a large network of academics, scientists and oil and gas professionals with a common interest in deep-water sedimentation. Deep Marine thus provides a shop window into the different aspects of this network, of use to Universities and the Energy Industry at large.

Education / Training

Deep Marine provides education and training either independently (Deep Marine courses), through universities or their associated training companies, or through larger training companies (OGCI/Petroskills or GTA-Nautilus)

Research / Publications

Deep-Marine is also designed as a website to allow students, researchers and petroleum industry professionals to access information on deep-water research, and as a one-stop shop to link to other research groups with interests in deep-marine geology whether laboratory based, outcrop based, modern sea floor based, or focussed on the subsurface. Some of the biggest leaps we have made Research / Publicationsin the past 30 years have been as a direct consequence of iteration between data sets of different scales. 3D and 4D seismic in particular, and the more frequent use of dynamic hydrocarbon production data, have allowed us as geologists to see, feel, and observe the internal plumbing of, these fascinating rocks. In these pages, which will see frequent updating, we hope that you will find a useful resource for your areas of interest.
